What is Core Strokes®?
Core Strokes® is an integrative framework for somatic psychotherapy, embodied development, and therapeutic transformation.
Developed by Dirk Marivoet through more than four decades of clinical practice, teaching, and research, it brings together breath, fascia, movement, emotional regulation, developmental psychology, relational experience, and consciousness into a coherent map of human development.
Rather than focusing on symptoms alone, Core Strokes® explores how experience becomes organized within the living body—and how that organization can evolve toward greater vitality, coherence, resilience, and participation in life.
At the heart of the framework lies a simple understanding:
Human beings are living, relational organisms whose capacity for growth emerges through the ongoing interaction of breath, fascia, nervous system regulation, movement, relationship, and meaning.
Core Strokes® provides practical maps for understanding this process—and experiential pathways for supporting transformation from within.
The framework can be approached through breath, fascia, trauma, character structures, relationship, or consciousness—but all belong to the same developmental architecture.
The diagram below provides an overview of the Core Strokes® Framework. It illustrates how embodied participation develops through foundational organismic principles, organizational dynamics, developmental organization, and six complementary maps that support assessment and therapeutic transformation in somatic psychotherapy.

How Core Strokes Works
Core Strokes® supports transformation by recognizing and responding to how the organism already organizes experience through breath, fascia, movement, and relationship.
Core Strokes® supports transformation through three interconnected dimensions:
🌬 Breath Organization
Sensing how inhalation, exhalation, and pauses reflect safety, activation, and contact.
🌿 Fascial Responsiveness
Reading tissue texture as a record of adaptation, memory, and developmental potential.
🤝 Relational Presence
Using attuned contact and pacing to support regulation, integration, and transformation.
Unlike method-based or technique-driven somatic approaches, Core Strokes® is not something applied to the body, but a way of listening to how the body already organizes itself — and supporting its capacity to change.
